Liz Haywood-Sullivan
Liz Haywood-Sullivan is a representational artist specializing
in pastel landscapes. Her paintings are defined by strong contrast
values and graphic compositions and feature the interplay between
man and the environment, with buildings, roads, and signs often
working their way into her imagery. After graduating from Rochester
Institute of Technology in 1978 she worked as an industrial designer,
exhibit designer, and professional illustrator and spent 11 years
operating Haywood+Sullivan, Inc., a graphic design business, with
her husband.
Since 1996 she has worked as a professional pastel artist, art educator,
and community arts organizer. The January 2004 issue of the Artist's Magazine
named her as one of 20 contemporary artists "On the Rise" and she will be
featured in the May 2007 issue of American Artist Magazine.
She is a vice president for the North River Arts Society, and holds
Signature Memberships in the Pastel Society of America, the Connecticut
Pastel Society, and the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod. Her paintings
have been juried into the following Annual National Shows: Pastel Society
of America, Academic Artists Association (Honor Award 2006), Catherine
Lorillard Wolf, and The Allied Artists of America (Pastel Society of
America Award 2004). In 2005 she was awarded the Pastel Society of
America Award at the "Pastels Only" show by the Pastel Painters
Society of Cape Cod. Her work has been seen at the Butler Institute of
American Art in 2006 and 2003. Her award-winning paintings are included
in private and corporate collections nationwide.
In Boston her work can be seen at the Vose Galleries and in Taos NM at Act One Gallery.
