Monolith
Pastel on board
37.5" x 28"
I do not tell people what the subject is, since I do not believe it is necessary to know that in order to enjoy this painting. "Monolith" is a large painting, and the simple shapes and colors work together to create a bright, interesting, and somewhat mysterious piece.
Ann Heywood
"... to entice the viewer into my art, beyond what is seen, to what is felt."
Anne Heywood, expressive realist artist, creates a mood, as well as likeness, in her works. Her paintings and drawings are combinations of both beauty and expression, a reflection of her life spent in New England and Italy. Heywood applies "dry" medium - soft pastels, oil pastels, or charcoal - with her hands on textured surfaces to achieve the strong compositions and subtle color transitions for which she is known.
Heywood is the recipient of the International Association of Pastel Societies' prestigious Masters Circle Award and the first recipient of their Convention Image Award, along with the Pastel Society of America's Holbein Award, and the Salmagundi Club's George Inness, Jr. Memorial Award. Her paintings, drawings, and writings have been published in international books and magazines such as "Australian Artist", "The Best of Sketching and Drawing", "The Best of Pastel", "Pastel Artist International", and "American Artist Magazine". She is author and illustrator of the book, Pastels Made Easy (Watson-Guptill Publications, New York), released in June 2003.
Heywood is a signature and founding member of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, an artist member of the Copley Society, the Salmagundi Club, and the National Association of Women Artists, and a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Connecticut Pastel Society. Her educational background includes a B.A. summa cum laude in Art. She is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Women.
Heywood gives art instruction, lectures, and demonstrations. She accepts commissions for custom landscapes and pet portraits. Her works can be found in both national and international corporate and private collections.
