Cynthia is a pastel painter who has been involved in creative endeavors most of her life but works on paper have been the consistent thread. Starting in pencil, working through pen and ink renderings, painting extensively in watercolor and for the last fifteen years working in pastel, she interprets the world around her through drawing and painting.
Whether trying to capture the broad expanses of sky, sea and marsh or focusing in on close up still-lifes found in nature, Cynthia is looking to depict light, shapes, colors and textures in well balanced compositions as pleasing to the viewer as they are to the artist as she discovers them. To capture the essence of these visual tableaux, vast or minute, and transpose them onto paper using pastels is her ultimate goal in painting.
Cynthia has had the privilege of combining two of her passions, art and travel, to hone her skills of observation, sketching and painting. This has led to a unique perspective which informs her paintings and enhances her appreciation of both the natural and manmade worlds.
Along with being a signature member of the Pastel Painter’s Society of Cape Cod, Cynthia is an artist member of Cape Cod Art Association where she has been accepted into juried shows and taken prizes for both her watercolors and pastels. She is a founding member of the Cape Cod Waterworks Etc. and an active member of both the Southwest Florida Pastel Society and the Naples Art Association. She has paintings in public and private collections. Her current work can be seen at The Watershed Gallery (seasonal) in Cataumet and The Drawing Room in Chatham.
